“Children benefit most from teachers who have the skills, knowledge, and judgment to make good decisions and are given the opportunity to use them.” – Susan Bredekamp PhD
Dr. Sue Bredekamp is the originator of NAEYC - Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Education: Serving children from birth through 8 (2009) This process grants learning facilities with accreditation of providing quality childcare services.
As educators, how has your practices been effected by the guidelines?
My preschool is one of the schools in our district to receive the NAEYC accreditation. Being a part of NAEYC brought to both the teachers and administration a sense of pride due to the fact that we all worked very hard to achieve this goal. We all worked as a team to define the social emotional, cognitive and physical development. By working with the Creative Curriculum Teaching Strategies it provided us effective methods of what, when and how to teach. It gave us the tool to meet the children's needs and their families. As we continue to make the decisions that will help lay the foundation of our students, our expectations of a child's progress has been a learning progression for all of us.
ReplyDeleteBeing apart of NAEYC is an awesome achievement. I take great pride in being a part of a learning facility that values the quality of education. It is important that we continue to strive for what makes children thrive, develop, and grow.
